Charity: I have chosen to support the organisation “Save the Orangutan“. I watched a documentary on the charity and Lone and the orangutan babies touched me deeply. I found it inspiring to see how big a difference one passionate person can make. I am a big animal lover and I admire people like Lone that are so dedicated and persistent. Each year, thousands of orangutans disappear when the rainforest is cut down and this has put them at risk of extinction. An orangutan baby needs as much care and attention as a human newborn and the rehabilitation process at Nyaru Mengteng rehabilitation center prepares the orangutans for the wild so that they can be set free. It is an enormously vulnerable and demanding process. Save the Orangutan also help save areas of the rainforest from deforestation by teaching the local population alternative methods to earn their living.
Inspiration: The story behind the AW15 collection, The Traveller, made me think of a beautiful bird flying through exotic scenery. Peru has more than 1800 different birds, the second highest number in the world. I wanted to make something simple with a modern touch – wings that embrace you and take you on an adventure.
